Spaces Created by Nature

Visible amber zones and natural resin pockets

The slab features dark, deep areas, open sections of material, and large amber formations that stand out clearly against the lighter root structure. This contrast defines the work’s impact: the amber spaces do not appear as small inclusions, but as distinct visual events within the material.

Subfossil material

Functional art made from root wood that is thousands of years old

The unique appeal of Unikat 171 stems from the structure of the ancient kauri tree, which has developed over millennia. Amber, root patterns, resin pockets, and naturally formed openings create a natural order whose depth and expressiveness are virtually impossible for humans to replicate. The craftsmanship involved consists of revealing this naturally formed beauty and transforming it into a sculptural collector’s piece.
