Unikat 150 is a large-format, sculptural designer dining table made of subfossil root wood with naturally embedded amber. The 205 × 105 cm tabletop, which is 7 cm thick, features an exceptionally dense grain and a natural root structure. As a collectible design object, this piece combines functional art with the spatial presence of a standalone design object.

The tabletop, crafted from a naturally formed root structure, features an exceptionally dense and dynamic grain pattern. Flow-like patterns, dark bark-like areas, and naturally embedded amber sections create a unique sense of depth that is more reminiscent of a large-scale work of art than a traditional tabletop.
Transparent epoxy resin stabilizes individual sections and reveals the material’s three-dimensional effect. As a result, the unique structure itself becomes a defining feature of this extraordinary piece of designer furniture.

The exceptionally dense grain of this functional collector's item developed within a root structure that grew over thousands of years. Amber-colored zones, bark patterns, and organic formations create a naturally formed visual world whose depth is virtually impossible to reproduce artificially.
The craftsmanship in the studio does not fundamentally alter this natural form. It reveals the existing structure and transforms it into a one-of-a-kind design.
Documented Origin
Age-certified Ancient Kauri from New Zealand
The piece is documented as a unique item, No. 150, and is accompanied by a scientific age certificate. The radiocarbon-dated sample has an age of 2995 ± 29 BP, corresponding to a calibrated date of 1374–1123 B.C.
This unique tabletop was personally selected by Beaupoil in New Zealand and then crafted into a one-of-a-kind piece—the entire process of which was documented—at the studio in Germany.
Selection and Origin
Select burl wood from New Zealand
Beaupoil personally selected the burl wood slab for this designer dining table in New Zealand. Even in its raw state, the exceptionally dense grain, the natural amber-colored areas, and the tabletop’s eventual visual appeal were already evident.
The photographs show the original formation at its site of origin as well as its journey to Germany. They provide insight into the selection of a single ancient kauri formation and its subsequent refinement in the studio.
